Thank you for visiting our Website! I am Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Alcides Lugo, Jr the Director of the Department of Florida Veterans of Foreign Wars Retirement Home in Fort McCoy. After retiring on 1 October 2008 from the United States Army after a 24 year career I saw no better way to continue to “serve” Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airman, and Coast Guard Veterans than to have the honor and privilege to serve as the Director for their Retirement Home. The VFW Retirement Home and grounds is spread out over 42 acres and rests among the typical oaks and palms towering with age and dignity, just as are our veterans that reside at the Home. You see, all that reside here have a story to share and even more so have contributed in someway to our freedoms we enjoy today. We are embraced with tranquility and camaraderie that is one of a kind. Our guiding principle is to provide affordable, independent living accommodations to our Veterans of Foreign Wars, as well as their qualifying spouses. In addition we are providing an atmosphere that promotes independence, dignity, privacy and continuing opportunities and activities for our residents, their family and friends. We are dedicated to providing a homelike atmosphere to Veterans who have proven their loyalty and patriotism by serving our country. Our belief is as we grow, so do our challenges and our possibilities. It is a most challenging and rewarding stewardship, that of helping your neighbor as you help those you are ordained to serve, the members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and their dependents. We continue to strive to become an integral part of the community and continue to build partnerships with veteran groups, local and state government, civic and fraternal organizations, along with churches and individuals. We value your suggestions and comments towards making this site easier to use and enjoy by all residents, staff, and friends at Fort McCoy VFW Retirement Home. Please don't hesitate to let us know how we're doing. Also, feel free to download our Resident's Application Form or check out our brochure. Our Commitment for 2009:
Fly the Flag on 9/11 On every September 11th, an American flag
should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States.
Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this anniversary of our country's worst tragedy. We do this in honor of those who lost their lives, the families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms. In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity. Our American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds. Fly an American flag of any size on 9/11. Honestly, Americans should fly the flag year-round, but if you don't, then at least make it a priority on this day. Thank you for your participation. God bless you and God bless America.
