Past Events These are some of the events that have been held at out Home throught the years.
On behalf of the VFW Retirement Home we would like to say thank you to our Event Contributors, Sponsors Participants and Volunteers involved with the 1st Annual VFW Home “Veterans Horse Fest” hosted at the Home on Sunday, April 11, 2010. What a great equestrian exposition, talent, music, horsemanship and camaraderie that was enjoyed and appreciated by our veterans, the participants and the audience of about 350+.

Honor Flight Bike Fundraiser for WWII Veterans “The Greatest Generation” Under the leadership of Ed Jaworski and his team members from the American Legion Riders Chapter 284, they coordinated and sponsored an “Honor Flight Run” Bike Ride Fundraiser on Saturday, April 10, 2010. The honor run started at the American Legion 284 in Belleview and traveled through scenic Marion County with stops at Ocala Harley Davidson and VFW Post 10208 in Salt springs. The VFW Retirement Home Fort McCoy was proud to assist and host the riders at their final destination in the Home’s pavilion. They group of over 200 were treated to a BBQ picnic, prizes, along with entertainment provided by bluegrass band Salt Run.
All proceeds went towards the funding of a 2nd Honor Flight from the Ocala area for WWII veterans to travel to Washington, DC to visit their WWII Memorial in 2010. In October of 2009 over 100 local WWII veterans, plus their guardians took the one day trip.
On Saturday, March 20, 2010 the Home held their 10th Annual Country BBQ Picnic. Over 1200 people were in attendance and enjoyed a day of fun, food, refreshments, entertainment, raffles, closest to the pin, horse shoe tourney, games and more. The day opened with a grand entry by Rolling Thunder Chapter 3; included a patriotic opening and continued with the main event on stage that featured Southside Blues Band and Reflections “U.S.O. Tribute.

The VFW Retirement Home in Fort McCoy held their Inaugural VFW Home Golf Tournament on Friday, March 19th at the Silver Springs Shores Country Club with 22 foursomes participating. Event Sponsors were Humana, Inc. and VFW Post 12070. We had a great turnout, good food, prizes, overall fun and we definitely plan to grow the event in 2011.
On Friday, February 5, 2010 the VFW Dept of FL, along with the VFW Retirement Home Fort McCoy, proud to were host Mrs. Jan Tittle, National President Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The visit, which included a lunch, tour of the Home, brick dedication, visits with residents, tour of the Home and more proved to be a great success. We look forward to Mrs. Tittle's next visit, hopefully in time for the Home's new wing dedication in early fall 2010.
